TALL SAILING SHIP

The welcome is a 85 ft replica of 1775 merchant. The Welcome was built as a private merchant vessel by the wealthy French fur trader John Askin at the straits of Mackinac in Michigan and purchased a few year latter by the British military and converted to His Majestic Armed sloop Welcome. The replica Welcome was built by the Mackinac Island State Park Commission and launched in 1982. In 1992 the Welcome was placed in MHA stewardship and is currently being rebuilt by MHA volunteers.

Spec on the Welcome Sparred length 90 ft. LOA 56 ft. Draft 8 ft. Beam 16 ft, Rig height 96. ft Tons 45.
